Preliminary- skills audit
Today, to conclude on the preliminary task, our teacher asked us to self-report on how we believe we performed and contributed to September’s task. The table below is based on my opinion of my share of the group’s work. As the editor of our group, I excel in editing and software areas.
Using software- Since I have previous experience with editing and some editing software, both for older school projects and my already established passion for media, navigating applications like DaVinci for editing our preliminary project came quite quickly and easily for me. I believe I have done a decent job with my editing, and I am proud of my skills. I plan to continue to find new ways to level up my technique for a perfect final.
Teamwork- I consider one of my biggest challenges to be working in a team. I’m not a very social person, so coordinating with others is an obstacle of mine. There was some miscommunication between me and my teammates during the making of Dear Diary, but we collaborated to resolve it in time. Despite this, I strive to coordinate with my teammates better in the future.
Mis-en-scene- Throughout the filming of the Preliminary task, I have gained vital insight on the theoreticals of mis-en-scene, including lighting, costume, setting and visual composition. I kept these elements in mind as I worked on the editing of Dear Diary, to set the intended tone of the project and its mis-en-scene.
Camera work- Camera work is a skill I must acquire in the near future in the next project as I have not had the opportunity to engage in this practical concept so far. It is a crucial step in my media studies journey, and I plan to learn how to use different techniques such as the different angles, shots and movements that help to create a dynamic and cohesive narrative in a film.
Editing- This is a skill I have mastered in my media studies journey, made easier in due part because of my previous experience with honing the skill. I believe editing is something I am good at, and so it has become my main role in our group.
